to an orphanage for Haiti

March 7, 2010

Embracing the world is starting an orphanage in Haiti in order to care for children who have lost their parents in the earthquake of January 12, 2010.

ETW has rented a four-storey house in Laboulle, a neighborhood in the hills outside of Port-au-Prince, which is about to be transformed into an orphanage. The necessary questions have been registered with the Haitian government. ETW will initially assume the care for 25 orphaned children.

"When Amma heard about the earthquake, it was full of compassion for the people suffering there. She just told me to fly to Haiti and try to learn the most effective ways in which ETW can help," said Fr. Dayamrita, a monastic disciple of Amma and coordinating the activities of North America's ETW.

Reports say that after the earthquake, Haiti is home to nearly one million children orphaned. Other measures

Haiti-and-the rehabilitation work done by ETW includes shipping a container of medical supplies, which was sent two weeks after the disaster. The supplies were received by partners for the Health, Boston-based charitable organization working in Haiti in the last 20 years.
